Its like a poor man's Cannes!

Hello bloggees and bloggettes, no I haven't fallen off the face of the planet (stop booing at the back!), apologies for the late blog, but I have never set an agenda for when I blog, and I've been rather busy. So this will be the first of two, yes two, blogs in a week.

Right then, on with my second and third weeks at my new job, and things are starting to get better and better, to the point where I am starting to realise that I could actually be in a job that rewards hard work. I only thought those jobs existed in movies or cheap, badly written 'drama premieres' on ITV1!

Throughout the last couple of weeks, not only have I got my own name-plaque above my desk (one of my own personal ambitions finally realised, now all I need is a corner office, my own business cards, and my own, hot, secretary and I'm home and hosed!), but I've been slowly given more work to do, which I have given my all to get right, and have done, which has not gone unnoticed by the powers-that-be, who seem more and more interested in how far I can go in the department, cue better and more important work as the days have gone on.

I'm also starting to realise the hierarchy of the department, and what type of experience/qualifications people in higher positions than me have, and to be honest, its very surprising for me to find out that some of the fee-earning staff at the firm, have only got the odd legal qualification at University, and/or some practical experience dealing with insurance claims at insurance companies, or have administration experience at the firm for a year or so before moving up (and sometimes out, we have 25 people who work from home as theres not enough room in the office! I wanna be one of those people!!). So by the end of last week I felt really good about moving into a better position within the firm in the next year or so, as I'm trying not to kid myself into thinking I know everything. To be honest, I'm perfectly happy to get the experience under my belt, thus proving to myself and others that I should be in a better position with my qualifications, which by that time, should have become a whole lot better, added to the fact that, out of the other 2 guys in my team, one wants to become an accountant and is moving downstairs to the costs team in the next couple of months, once either a chap that I haven't met yet (as he's been on holiday, got an exotic disease and has been off for 6 weeks.....god I hope he didn't go the Caribbean!) comes back and takes over the running of the team, or he passes all his knowledge onto me and I carry on the running of the team. Hmmm, I wonder which one I'd prefer!? The other chap is only a temp, even though he's worked in the same team a few months ago, but he is leaving in 3 months to go back to university to do a degree in modern history, so he's no threat either!

Anyway back to the good stuff, and my new celebrity-spotting hobby. Now, because I'm working right down the road to the BBC Midlands offices in the Mailbox, you do kinda bump into everyone that works there, so in the last 2 weeks I've seen Nick Owen (legend of TV presenting...well he survived working with Ann Diamond so he has to be a legend), Ed Doolan (proper legend of Radio WM), a grumpy-assed Shefali Oza.

We do, however, have a new leader, replacing Dudley Scott at the top of my celebrity-tree. I present to you, live from the Cafe' at the REP........

....Adjoa Andoh, otherwise known as Martha's mother, Francine, from the current series of Dr Who, but she's been in hundreds of things. I assume she was at the REP (for those uneducated types, the Birmingham Repertory Theatre) for a show. Sorry Dudley, but you are a worthy 2nd place to a time-travellers mother!
Right, that's it from me. I shall blog again soon as we had a massive weekend, so until then, cheery-bye!
