'Have a nice daaaaaaaay'
Blimey, has it really been that long since I last posted? I know you must have been devastated not hearing from me for the last week or so, so I'll try and make up for it now, condensing 14 days into one post, which should be fun!
Amazingly I didn't get eaten by halloween ghouls or ghosties, although we did have 2 baby witches come round, which is rare as we don't tend to get many halloween-type people round our neighbourhood, due to the house prices being so high that its literally a choice between having kids or a nice house! The weekend brought the usual moronic fireworks and whizz-bangs in the street, which were suitably annoying. I think I may be the only person in the world who actually finds buying fireworks fairly nonsensical, although I do admit to watching them! Saturday morning, I awoke to find a big firework had lodged itself, together with some of its smaller companions, into our front lawn. Not the worst thing in the world, you have to agree, but not when you consider the big one bounced off my car bonnet before plunging itself into our lawn! Suffice to say i was not amused!
Sunday was a pleasant one, we spent about an hour in the freezing cold trying to cut back as much as we could cram into the green bin before winter hit, which was useful, although it took me an hour to get green powdery tree-stuff off my hands!
Work was relatively good last week, as we had a small amount of work in, so we had a chance to crack on with some wonderful archiving, woohoooooooo! party......on! Highlights of the week included realising that a secretary in our office looks the spitting image of....
The Nanny off Count Duckula! She even has the same stooping walk that she used to have, and a strangely similar voice too. All we need is for someone to knock on the door and for her to say 'I'll get it, duckypoos', and we'll have a live action remake on our hands!
Other than that, it was a fairly bog-standard week for me, Thursday night was the usual foray to the chav-horse, which was pretty good actually. A good laugh was had by all who attended, which brings us wonderfully to the greatest weekend of the year!!
Saturday was spent shopping, or at least getting ideas of what we all want for xmas off each other, which was good, but Sunday....oh Sunday....was a goodie!
If you live under a rock, or have just crash landed onto this green and pleasant earth, allow me to fill you in. Sunday saw a local derby in Birmingham, Blues v Villa, and I don't think it could have gone any better if you tried! As a lifelong villa fan, and as a fan of my own life, I stayed at home to watch the match on TV, as there is usually the odd dust-off between the fans, and because i didn't want to remortgage our house to buy a ticket! The game started perfectly, with villa soaking up alot of pressure, then liam ridgewell (who we sold to blues in the summer for actual money!), doing what he does best and scoring an own goal in the first 15 mins of the game. What followed next was the longest game I can remember in a long time! At times I actually forgot to breathe, as we went close to scoring at one end, then blues went close at the other.
Blues bought on another striker at half time and he managed to score in the second half, leading to even more heart attacks in the beagle household! We then went close, then they went even closer, with a header which was superbly cleared off the line, before.......in the last 3 minutes of the game.........we got the winner! Now, I will let you into a little secret now, I screamed like a girl!
So, up and down the midlands, hundreds of villa fans could walk proudly into their office and take full advantage of the bragging rights afforded to them, mwaahaaahhaaaaaa!
That was not the end of my Sunday, far from it, as I was going to see the Stereophonics at the NEC on the night. I've never been to a proper rock gig at the NEC before, and was fairly dubious that the 'Standing' on my tickets were going to mean I was in a mosh pit for most of the night, but to be honest it was a fantastic night. They were supported by The Enemy, who came out and did an hour long gig first, and they were really good, then the Sterophonics came out and did 2 hours, which was superb. Hard to believe they have been around for over 10 years and I still can't believe the songs they have done. Brilliant band, brilliant day......B R I L L I A N T !
