Day Eight: Barbados (again!)
The last island of our first week was back to Barbados. Having only seen a few backstreets and the odd weird-looking dog/dog/chicken/tree, we were looking forward to it, especially as its one of the islands you first think of when someone says 'Caribbean'.
Again, we'd booked ourselves on another 'Best Of' tour, so before all the people leaving the boat could get off, us second-weekers piled off the ship and onto our tourbus for a half day's tour of the island.
Now, as stunning scenery goes (and so far, you've had a fair old selection of pretty fine photos), when you think of sitting on a beach, just doing nothing, with a cocktail of your choice, is this pretty much what you are thinking of?
Ladies and Gentlefolk, I give you, Bathsheba Bay:
...and just to add a bit of Carib-colour to the occasion, some of the local women were making wooden ornaments to sell to the tourists, whilst their washing dried out.
So, after about half an hour of oohs and aahs we popped back onto the coach and made our way to the top of the tallest mountain on the island, where green monkeys were supposed to live. f course we didn't see any as we drank another rum punch, but while we were looking at the view, I noticed a couple of signs that shouted 'blog' at me.
First up, spot the deliberate mistake:
I've always wanted to go to Los Angles, where nothing is quite how you expect it to be!
Next up, the best sign I've ever seen!
You'll have to look closely at the writing, but its well worth it!
Incase you can't read it (the writing is quite small), the sign reads:
Highland Adventure Weather Station
If the stone is wet.....its raining
If the stone is hot.....its sunny
If the stone is cool....its overcast
If the rock is gone....
...its a Hurricane, RUN!
HAVE A NICE DAY!
By the time we'd got back to the ship and had a wander round a fairly rubbish americanised mall-type thing that passed for some shops, new people were boarding, although we had to wait to bring on more fresh water, so we eventually left port at midnight, which was eerie!
Tomorrow, its a free day, and also my aunts birthday, but we never expected the day we had!!
'Always the last to know'
Right, onto the normal blog bit and its been a strange one at work this week. I appear to be the founatin of all social knowledge without actually knowing anything at all! On Tuesday, I had the following conversation:
'So, I bet you're looking forward to tomorrow night?!'
'.....erm...what about tomorrow night?'
'Oh haven't you had the email?'
'Er.....no'
'Oh right, sorry......'
Cue the longest lift journey ever!
And on Thursday, this conversation:
'So, I hear you're going to the cricket on Sunday'
'erm....no, I've not heard anything about any cricket on Sunday'
'Oh right, I thought I heard someone say you were going'
'No, no ones mentioned anything to me!'
'Oh right........'
So, two situations whereby someone could have told me what the hell was going on, but declined the invite point blank. Seems like I should have been told, as it was implied that I'd be going to wherever, but obviously I appear to be the office social leppr. I don't really mind about the first one, as it was probably only going for an end of year drink and I hadn't got any cash on me, so thats ok, but the cricket is a different story. I mean, was it an invite to the test match in manchester, or a local game, or would I have to play (I could do with smacking another 4 against an insurance toff!), I just don't know!!!
......and relax.......
Anyway I'm not too bothered about it really, just annoyed at the time I suppose, but looking forward to this weekend, I'm out Friday night at Hall Green Dogs with a few mates from my old work, then out for a booze up at the beer keller on saturday night, so I could have done without a cricket game/social interaction on sunday, so there!
