Good Things come to those who.......

Greetings one and all, and welcome to another enthralling blogette from yours truly.

This week has been one of those strange up and down weeks that came to a resounding finish on sunday, but we shall start at the very beginning (a very good place to start, for all those sound of music fans!)

The week started at a leisurely pace, as I had to try and gear myself up to come into work after a nice week off, but the work wasn't coming in too quickly either, which eased me into the week quite nicely.

On Tuesday night, I did something rather silly. I was bending down (never a great start to a sentence, but stay with it) reading something and as I went to get up, I felt a sharp, shooting pain just above my knee. I think I must have damaged the muscle as I could hardly walk for the rest of the night and ended up limping around for the rest of the week, which gave me a pretty cool walk I have to say!

I didn't manage to get up the pub on my normal thursday jaunt because of this, and because the villa were playing that silly-named team from iceland so I stayed home to watch that and do some coursework, which was about as eventful as my evening got.

Friday, it all went a bit mad! It was about 9am and I was working away when I felt a bit cold in my leg. Looking down, I was looking straight at my thigh and realised in true carry-on style, that my trousers had given up the fight and split right down the seam, almost to my knee! I then remembered something that I had either seen at school, or on TV, and getting my stapler, very carefully lined up the seam and stapled my trousers back together at my desk, as I'm tucked away with my back to the window and partitions everywhere! This happened on the hour every hour, because as soon as I sat down again, one of them would ping off and stab me in the leg!

(Thankfully Google were not doing the offices of Broad Street at that time with their 3D machine, so I think I may have escaped!)

So, on saturday we went into solihull and I had an early birthday present as my aunt very kindly bought me a nice new suit (with attached seams and everything!) from BHS, which was good of her, and the evening was spent watching Oceans 13, which is more in keeping with the brilliant first film, and thankfully nothing like the bilge of the second film!

Now, every football season, I purchase a brand spanking new cheesy CD, its usually 80's, 70's disco, or something equally sing-alongable (is that a word? Well it is now), and unfortunately I had not had time to go and get one this week as the weather had been rubbish, so today I had to go and get the CD, which is a good 15 minute walk right down new street. So, with freshly stapled trousers, I set off and wandered round Zavvi and HMV, eventually settling on the 2 cd box sets that I wanted, and made it all the way back to the office without hearing a 'ping' in the trouser region!

We have a few VIP season tickets at the Villa at work that we usually take clients along to, and occasionally, when the powers-that-be can't make it, they do a draw out of the hat for the tickets to be given to those less fortunate. There was one such draw at work on friday and, as per usual, I put my name down for the draw......and only bloody won it!

So, on Sunday, both myself and Mr Bennett, as well as another person from work and her better half, went down to Villa Park for the first game of the season against Man City. We got there nice and early so we could get in our 3-course carvery lunch and soak up the atmosphere in the ground. The carvery itself was really nice, the kind of carvery you'd get in a normal pub on a sunday, and we were so stuffed by the mains that we could hardly make it to dessert. And in true VIP style, we made our way up to our comfy, armchair-like seats, about 5 minutes before the game started!

The game itself was a typical first day of the season affair, both teams had their good moments and bad, but in the second half, we pretty much blew them away with a sparkling hat-trick in 7 minutes by the legendary Gabby Agbonlahor, which has set us up nicely in 2nd place in the league, so lets hope we can hang on for another 37 games eh!

On the way out we went for a drink in the VIP area (I just love saying 'VIP'!) and watched the second half of the Man U match, then as we were leaving, we decided to have a wander over to the players car park to see if we could meet any of the players.....

.....which we did!

Now, I would normally put the pictures of the players I met up on the blog, but as my mobile has fell out with my computer, and does not want to play, I'll have to put that on another seperate blog, if I can ever upload them, but we met most of Villas first team, Doug Ellis, plus a few Man City players, and their manager Mark Hughes, and even the referee came for a chat!

It was a fab end to a great day, just can't wait to go in for the draw again!!
