Welking in a Wonter Sunderland
Greetings one and all to another enthralling blog, and in a change to recent times, its actually a fairly uplifting and positive blog! (I know, I'm worried too, but just go with it!)
Friday night was spent at the German Market with mom and a few old workmates. It was a really good night, and considering it was hammering down half an hour before we got there, the weather held off nicely and a good night was had by all. We left at about half 8 and got back in to watch the IT Crowd, which I think you'll find is brilliant!
The weekend was made for me on a cold, wintery Saturday night, when the mighty Villa held Man Utd to a goalless draw, which meant we crept into the top 4 on points, and not goal difference like previous attempts. Hopefully we won't go a bugger it all up when we play Fulham this coming saturday!
Monday was arguably the best day of the week, as it was the most random! I decided to have a wander round the German Market, as I hadn't been for a few days.
On the way there, noticed a little van parked outside the ICC. It had various anti-government lingo and pro-conservative guff on some TV's on the side of the bus, however thats not what made me laugh. Apparently, in an attempt to rebrand the old tories, good ole 'Dave' has rebranded the Conservative logo so it is now a big green tree......which is nice. Its meant to indicate a change of direction for the party, as we are entering a bold new world, threatened by global warming, and so a big oak tree is meant to represent a greener alternative to....well anything else! So it was a bit of a surprise to find that the van they used to advertise their fist-waving at the government, had its engine on, spewing diesel fumes everywhere, for a good hour!
That made me chuckle, although not as much as the singing moose in the German Market. He is a fixture at the market, singing carols for the patrons and generally getting everyone into the spirit of christmas (he isn't an actual moose, by the way. Even though that would be great fun, I'm sure the RSPCA would be onto them in a flash!). Anyway, one of his songs on monday was that great christmas song, White Christmas', sung in a very low, deep, fake american accent, which if you forgot it was a cheesy version, would get you into the spirit whether you liked it or not. Unfortunately, I'm sure dear old Bing Crosby wouldn't have sung the following verse:
'Where treetops glisten; and children listen;
to hear........
SLYBELLS in the snoooooow'!
What the doosch is a Sly Bell? Oh those sly little bells, getting up to mischief around this time of year, going around ringing themselves (ok that sounded less sordid in my head!)
Tuesday was a bust so we'll kick on with Wednesday, and I went to see the consultant in the afternoon for my follow-up appointment to see if everything was working ok, which after an hour of waiting to see him (damn you, block appointments!), he told me in about 2 minutes that I was fine and had recovered well, although he does need to give me a poking mid next year, which is always something to look forward to!
Yesterday was really good. Amazingly, we must be the only few people to not have seen Mamma Mia, and considering we saw it at the theatre in London, and are big fans of the legendary ABBA, we really should have gone to see it. Anyway we bought the DVD yesterday and watched it, and I have to say it was a great show, very much like Hairspray (also a quality film), but with a far better cast and storyline.
I shall leave you with whatever ABBA song is in your head right now, ta ta!
