Just Another Winters Tale

Ah David Essex, the legendary cockerney sparra'. My best memory of good ole DE ironically was nothing to do with him. We were on holiday in Benalmadena and the hotel had a star turn every night. Unfortunately this was a fairly old person hotel, and as such, the poor old sods had to be in bed by 10, otherwise they'd turn into crazed zombies, or something. Anyway, one night we had a David Essex impersonator on, and I must say he was pretty good, belting out a few classics (Gonna Make you a Star, Hold me Close), as well as other oldie songs, which were a good singalong. Anyway time got on, and at about half 9, some of the packed crowd started to leave, which is understandable if you are a bit tired, or have an early start, but normal people would wait until the chap doing his darned best on stage had finished his song! They were walking past him in their droves by 10, and fair play to him, he just stood there, said goodnight to everyone, then turned to the audience and remarked on how it was 'Horlicks time'! Marvellous!

Things I've learned this week:

  • Cold hands are a nightmare when the cute girl on the train sits next to you and you want to apear to be all sofisticated and intelligent, but your fingers simply can't turn over the double page spread in the Metro all about AIDS!
  • It doesn't matter how old you are, an advent calendar is a must for Christmas, if not to give you a sugary buzz first thing in the morning, but to fill you with Christmas cheer every day!
  • It now takes half an hour to get yourself dressed before you leave work, what with the Nordic conditions outside, which is great as it gives you something to do when you are bored out of your brain!; and finally
  • The German language isn't fairly ok to remember, but you can't say it without veering into Klingon territory, which could just get you killed in Hamburg in 2 weeks time!

We shall leave the supreme 'bottlers' that are the not so mighty Villa team alone this week, and hope and pray that lessons have been learned from the weekends debacle, so when we do get the chance to go 3rd in the league, the pressure doesn't crush us again!

I shall leave you now with warm and soothing Christmassy wishes!
